What is Edge-rank ?
Edge-Rank is the Facebook algorithm that decides which stories should appear in each user's news-feed. The first thing we see when we log into Facebook is the news-feed. Facebook's revealed that there are three ingredients of the algorithm-
- Affinity Score
- Edge Weight
- Time Decay
What Is Affinity Score ?
Affinity Score means how much you are "connected" with a particular Person on Facebook. For example, Me and my brother are friends on Facebook. In addition,I tag comment him on different post, and we have some mutual friends. I have a very high affinity score with my brother, so Facebook knows I'll probably want to see his status updates but It does not means that my Brother will also have the same Affinity Score with me, his actions towards me on Facebook like Mentioning me on different Post, commenting or liking my post will decide his Affinity Score.
What Is Edge Weight ?
Each category of action has a different default weight. This means that comments are worth more than likes. Example My brother likes my Post but does not commented on the other side I commented on my brother's post but does not liked his post. This action means my Edge (Action) has more weight than his Edge.
What Is Time Decay ?
As a story gets older, it loses points because it's "old news."
Edge-Rank is a running score--not a one-time score. When a user logs into Facebook Your status update will only hit the news-feed if it has a higher score--at that moment in time--than the other possible news-feed stories.
1. The Strength of the Edge (Action)
2.How the person was connected with you.
3.How long ago they took the Action.

Facebook Calculates Affinity Score By Looking at-
1. The Strength of the Edge (Action)
2.How the person was connected with you.
3.How long ago they took the Action.
